Kimono Project (2001)

Suspended installation sculpture, International open air exhibition, Abiko, Japan.

Kimonos are rarely worn except on ceremonial occasions and mostly by women. The installation echoes the idea of ceremony. The chosen material, chain, points to the fact that many women in Japan remain subordinate to men.

Materials: Steel poles and chain.
