Green Wind

The Tump, Ravenswood, IpswichA wind-reactive sculpture with wings made of coloured stainless steel that turn 360 degrees in the wind. The colour of the stainless steel is created by an oxide layer on the polished surface of the material.

This reacts with daylight to create colour change. The colour of the sculpture changes with the seasons and the varying light of day. Height of the 12 stainless steel columns varies from 7 to 10 metres.

The site is a former World War 2 airfield and includes a conservation area for wildlife.

Commissioned by Ipswich Borough Council and Bellway Homes.
